LPC Associate - Supervised by Elizabeth Land LPC-S

Sharmeen Makda

I work primarily with women across the lifespan, including mothers, middle-aged women, and seniors. I also support adolescents, especially those from Asian, South Asian, and immigrant backgrounds—who may be navigating identity, cultural expectations, and life transitions. I understand the unique challenges women face at different stages of life, especially in balancing family, career, identity, and personal well-being. As a bilingual therapist fluent in Urdu and Hindi, I strive to offer culturally responsive care that helps clients feel understood not only emotionally, but also culturally and linguistically.

I believe that pain is often unavoidable or unpredictable. At some point in our lives, we all have to cope with distress and overwhelming emotions. I strive to create a safe space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to work through challenges at your own pace. Together, we will build practical tools and insights to help you move toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.

My primary approach is Adlerian Therapy, which emphasizes a holistic understanding of individuals, to reduce discouragement, promote insight, and support the development of positive, fulfilling relationships. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Person-Centered Therapy, tailoring each to meet the unique needs of my clients.

I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas, where I gained extensive training in clinical work. I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Child Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Dallas. Additionally, with a strong educational background in theology and spiritual studies, I offer a culturally sensitive and spiritually informed perspective, helping clients understand and navigate their challenges through the lens of faith and personal values.
